Carlo Jankowitz, Gr12 learner and also one of the leaders of Hoërskool Vryburg, is one of the Top 60 finalists in a nationwide Mathematics Competition that took place online during the lockout period. The competition was launched by Beeld, Die Volksblad and Die Burger. The preliminary date for the final round, for which Carlo will have to travel to Bloemfontein, is 25 July 2020. (Obviously, the date is subject to Covid-19 restrictions that will be applied during that time.) There are large cash prizes for the winner as well as his / her school at stake.
Simon van Heerden, gr11 learner from Vryburg High School, is one of 60 finalists in the National Junior Blitzbrein competition organized online this year by Netwerk24. There are 30 finalists in gr8 & 9 and Simon is one of the group of 30 finalists in the gr10 & 11 division. Flash brain is a factual quiz that tests learners' general knowledge across a wide field. Simon will take part in the online final on 15 August with learners from all over the country from Pretoria to the Cape.
Boineelo Mankwe, Gr11 learner from Vryburg High School, excelled in the De Beers English Olympiad. She received a diamond certificate (80% +) and was placed in position 15 on the national rankings for English first additional language. Well done Boineelo!
Helen Faber, gr12-leerder van Hoërskool Vryburg, is aangewys as die wenner van die kortverhaalafdeling van die FAK se Internasionale Afrikaans-Ekspo vir skoolleerders en studente. (Afrikaanssprekendes wat in enige land woon, mag inskryf.) Die tema vanjaar was "Musiek" en haar stuk se naam "Towerspel".
